Run a sequence

Start and stop

Select Play to start from the first cue. The sequence then works through its cues on its own, sending sound to its buses and video to its canvases.

The editor follows the cue that is playing and moves on when the next cue starts. You can select a different cue to look at it in the meantime.

Select Stop to end the sequence at any time.

When the last cue finishes, the sequence stops, or starts again from the first cue if Loop from the first cue is on.

How cues advance

A cue and each of its lanes advance when their media actually ends, not after a fixed time.

The cue rows show the time of the current pass:

  • 2/3 shows the pass of a ×N clip.
  • ↻ n shows the pass of a loop without end.
  • An item with only streams counts up.

Pausing stops all items. When you continue the sequence after a pause, a video clip starts again from its beginning.

A held image with no duration in a lane never ends on its own, so its cue waits until you select Next. The same happens with an item whose media never reports an end.

Advance a stepped lane

If a lane is in step mode, select Next to move the lane to its next item. When a stepped lane runs out of items, Next moves the sequence to the next cue.

What happens when a hot button interrupts

When a hot button needs a canvas or a section that the sequence is using, the hot button takes it while it plays. Afterwards, the sequence continues on its own.

The hot button only affects the canvases it uses. Say a sequence plays on the speakers and the main screen, and a hot button fires on the screen only: the sequence keeps playing on the speakers. On a board with sections, a hot button that targets one section interrupts only that section.

To make a takeover end the sequence:

  1. Open the settings of the sequence.
  2. Find When another item takes one of my canvases.
  3. Select Stop and rewind.

With this setting the sequence stops and rewinds instead of pausing, and you have to start it again yourself.

The setting applies only to canvas takeovers. On a shared bus the sequence keeps playing, except that it stops when both of these are true:

  • The sequence has Can be faded out by others.
  • The hot button fades other items when it starts.

For the full model, see Takeover and resume.

Run two sequences at once

Two sequences can play at once if they use different buses, canvases and sections.

If you start a sequence that needs a destination another sequence holds, the app shows Outputs in use, naming both sequences:

‘Pre-game' needs canvases owned by ‘Walk-in'. Take over?

Take over stops the other sequence. Cancel lets it carry on.

Drive it from hardware

You can bind the sequence transport to controller keys. A key can target one sequence by name, or work on whichever sequence is selected in the Sequences view. See Controller actions.

A lighting desk or a show-control app can also drive a sequence over OSC, by its Number. To copy the address of a sequence, select Copy OSC address in the toolbar. See OSC control.

Watch it from the main screen

When a sequence owns a bus, that bus's card in the Outputs panel shows the sequence name. When a hot button takes the bus, the card border turns amber and the name dims until the sequence continues.

Canvas tiles work the same way: they show a label with the sequence name, and an amber border during a takeover.
