Run a rotation

Go on air

  1. In the rotation editor, select Go on air.

The rotation starts immediately on the target canvas, and the Rotations list shows an On air chip on it.

While the rotation plays, a playhead moves down the timeline from top to bottom. In each column, the block on air fills up as it approaches the next block. The editor is locked while the rotation is on air. See Build a rotation.

The board strip

Screenshot pending

rotation-editor-02-live — Rotation editor while live, with live output per section, a progress fill and the board tiles in the column headers. Tracked in website/SCREENSHOTS.md.

Between the toolbar and the columns, the strip shows the whole board on one line, with all sections end to end at their true widths relative to each other. The strip is as wide as the editor allows and at most 50 px high. If it is narrower than the editor, it is centered.

  • When the rotation is stopped, each section shows a thumbnail of its content.
  • When the rotation is live, each section shows the real output, as long as the target canvas is enabled.
  • Hover over a segment to highlight it.

A canvas without sections shows one segment for the whole board.

To stop the rotation, select Stop in the toolbar, and the board goes black. Starting a different rotation also stops the current one.

ArenaDirector remembers the active rotation for each perimeter canvas and saves each rotation as you edit it, so after a restart everything is as it was.

What a takeover looks like

A hot button or a sequence that targets the perimeter takes control of it while it plays, and only of the target you selected. Whole board takes all sections. A single section target takes only that section, and the other sections keep playing.

In the editor, the toolbar shows a note such as North taken over by Goal with the time remaining, and the column header gets an orange dot. Both disappear when the takeover ends.

The schedule keeps running underneath the takeover, so the interrupted section picks up at the right point with whichever item is due by then. A takeover costs one sponsor a few seconds of its slot and does not push the rest of the loop later. A hot button on one section pauses only that section. See Takeover and resume.

Priority on each section

ArenaDirector decides what each section shows independently, in this order:

  1. A hot button or sequence that targets the section directly or through Whole board.
  2. The active rotation.
  3. Black, when nothing targets the section.

Check what aired

On Pro, ArenaDirector records every play of media that has a sponsor tag, and you can export the record. See Export proof of play.

On Free, Audio and Club, ArenaDirector records nothing. If you move to Pro later, the app does not add records for matches played before the change.
