Edit many hot buttons

Select mode works on many hot buttons at once. Use it to change the color of a whole page, send a group to a different bus, rearrange the grid, or copy a group to another page.

Select mode is available on Audio and higher plans. See Plans and limits.

Turn on Select mode

Select Select in the bar above the grid. Select it again to leave the mode.

In Select mode, clicking a hot button selects it and never fires it. Hardware and keyboard triggers still fire their hot buttons. To open Edit hot button, right-click a hot button, and select Edit….

Select hot buttons

  • Click a hot button to select only that hot button.
  • Click a selected hot button to remove it from the selection. The other selected hot buttons stay selected.
  • Shift-click selects the rectangle from the last hot button you clicked to this one, on the same page.
  • Cmd-click (macOS) or Ctrl-click (Windows) adds one hot button to the selection or removes it.
  • The handles above the columns and next to the rows select a whole column or row.
  • Select page selects the whole page you are viewing.
  • Clear selection clears the selection.

Each selected hot button gets a blue ring, and the bar shows how many are selected.

Apply a change

When at least one hot button is selected, a panel opens on the side with the number of selected hot buttons and these settings:

SettingEffect
ColorBackground and text color. Background and Text are available for custom colors.
Label sizeAuto, S, M or L.
Output busesThe buses for the selected hot buttons. A hot button that is playing keeps its buses.
Fade out on stopWhether the hot button fades out when you stop it. A hot button that is playing keeps its value.
Fade it out when this startsWhether it fades out other audio on its buses when it starts. A hot button that is playing keeps its value.
Others can fade this outWhether other hot buttons can fade it out. A hot button that is playing keeps its value.

If the selected hot buttons have different values for a setting, it shows Mixed. A setting you leave alone stays as it is on each hot button.

  1. Change the settings you want.
  2. Select Apply to N, where N is the number of selected hot buttons.

Output buses replaces the current routing instead of adding to it.

Color and label size also apply to a hot button that is playing. If you change the buses or a playback setting while a selected hot button is playing, the panel shows that it keeps its values.

No undo

Check the number on the button before you apply. The change writes to all selected hot buttons at once, and you cannot undo it.

Move, swap and copy with the mouse

  1. Press and hold a selected hot button, then drag it. The grid shows where the group will go.
  2. Release it at the position you want, on the same page.
  • On an empty position, the group moves there and keeps its shape.
  • On a hot button that has content, the app asks you to confirm and then replaces it. Dropping one hot button on another swaps the two.
  • Hold Alt while you drag to copy the group and keep the original.
  • If you drag a hot button that is not selected, only that hot button moves.

A hot button that is playing cannot be moved, swapped or replaced. The app tells you which one is playing, and nothing changes.

Copy, cut and paste

  1. Select the hot buttons.
  2. Select Copy or Cut. The bar shows what is on the clipboard.
  3. Open the page where the hot buttons should go. It can be a different page.
  4. Select the position for the top-left corner of the group.
  5. Select Paste here… (after Copy) or Move here… (after Cut).

If the group lands on hot buttons that have content, the bar shows Replaces N and the app asks you to confirm. If part of the group does not fit in the grid or in your plan, the bar shows how many do not fit, and you cannot paste until it does. Actions go with the button. The confirmation also counts actions that point to something missing, for example 2 triggers point to something missing. Cut removes nothing until you move. Select Cancel to empty the clipboard.

Move to a different page

Drag the selected hot buttons onto a page tab. They go to the first free positions on that page, and the grid switches to it. If the page has too few free positions, the app tells you and nothing moves.

Clear hot buttons

  1. Select the hot buttons.
  2. Select Clear N… in the panel.
  3. Confirm.

The app lists the hot buttons it will clear, and warns you if one of them is playing and will stop. You cannot undo this.

Trigger keys

Controller and keyboard triggers stay with the grid position. After a move, swap or paste, a key fires whichever hot button is now at its position. A copy gets no key of its own, because it lands on a position that keeps its own key. When you replace hot buttons, the app says Trigger keys stay with their positions.
