Manage teams and rosters
Select the sport of a match, then add its teams and players. Each team brings fields your overlays can show, such as its timeouts. For the concepts, see Overlays and the live-value store.
Teams, team stats and the team store are available on Club and higher plans. Players, player stats, the Roster element and import need the Pro plan. See Plans and limits.
Select the sport
The sport sets the stats of each team and their limits. Each match has its own sport.
- Open Overlays from the top bar.
- At the top of the overlay list, next to the match name, select Match settings.
- In Sport, select the sport: Handball, Volleyball, Ice hockey, Floorball, Indoor hockey, Basketball, Futsal, or Other: custom stats only.
- In Penalty clock, select the timer that counts penalties. The default is the game clock.
- Select Save.
- If the app asks for a confirmation, select the confirm button, for example Switch to Handball.
You cannot change the sport while an overlay is on air; Match settings then shows Take the overlays off air to change the sport.
When you select a sport other than Other: custom stats only, the app adds any of that sport's fields the match does not have yet. They appear on the Fields tab:
| Field | Sports |
|---|---|
Game clock (game_clock) | All sports except volleyball. It counts in the sport's direction. |
Timeout clock (timeout_clock) | All sports. It counts down from the length of one timeout. |
Shot clock (shot_clock) | Basketball. |
Period (period), Set in volleyball | All sports. Next period… adds 1 to it. |
These fields are yours to change or delete. Changing the sport leaves fields you already have as they are.
For how the timer controls penalties, see Penalties and the reference clock.
Do not change the sport during a match. Changing it clears all recorded stats, and if there are any, the confirmation shows how many it clears.
Change the limits of a stat
Each stat follows the sport's rules, and you can change those rules for this match.
- In Match settings, select Sport settings… next to Sport, and then select Edit stats….
- For a stat, set Start, Most or Limit.
- To go back to the sport's rule, select Reset to rule.
When a count reaches its limit, the app shows a flag, for example Fouled out or Bonus.
In handball, a 4-minute suspension counts as two suspensions toward the 2-minute suspension limit. With a limit of 3, one 2-minute and one 4-minute suspension flag the player.
Add a team stat
To count a value that the sport does not have, add your own team stat.
- On the Fields tab, select + Add team stat.
- Type a Display name and a Key.
- Set Most, Limit and Resets. Resets is Never, Each period or Each half.
- Select Add team stat.
Add a team
- Open the Teams tab.
- Select + Add team.
- In the settings panel, set these values:
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | The full name of the team. |
| Short name | The name in the team picker of the Live values panel. |
| Key | The prefix of the team's stat fields, for example nhf. Use 1 to 16 lower-case letters, digits or _. Each team needs a different key. |
| Color | The color of the team. A Roster element can show its header in this color. |
| Logo | An image from your library. |
You can add as many teams as you need.
On the Fields tab, the team's stats show under its name. Each stat field's key is the
team key, a full stop and the stat, for example nhf.timeouts. Bind a Value element
to it the same way as to any field. See
Build an overlay.
Each team also has these fields:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
<key>.score | The team's goals, or its points in basketball and volleyball. A player's goal or point also adds to it. |
<key>.name | The Name of the team. |
<key>.short_name | The Short name, or the Name if the team has no short name. |
<key>.logo | The Logo. An Image element with Source set to Team logo shows it. |
<key>.on_court, <key>.penalty_clock, <key>.penalties | Calculated from the active penalties. See Derived values. |
<key>.name, <key>.short_name, <key>.logo and the calculated fields are read-only.
To change them, edit the team.
You can edit a team while its overlay is on air, and the Teams tab then shows Shown on air: changes appear live.
teams-01-tab: the Teams tab with two teams, the players of one team, and the team settings panel. Tracked in website/SCREENSHOTS.md.
Add players
- On the Teams tab, select the team.
- Select + Add player.
- Set Number, First name, Last name and Position.
- Under Role, select the player's roles, for example captain.
- To add a photo, select Choose photo.
- To keep the player out of the squad for this match, clear In squad.
Two players of one team cannot have the same number.
Import players
You can import players from a .csv file or from rows you copied, for example from a
spreadsheet. The columns are number, first name, last name and position, and a header
row with these names is optional. Columns can be separated by commas, semicolons or tabs.
- On the Teams tab, select the team, and then select Import….
- Select Choose file…, or copy the rows and select Paste.
- Set Into the squad to Add or Replace. Replace removes the team's current players.
- Check the Result column. The import skips a row with no number or with a number already in use.
- Select the confirm button, for example Import 18 players or Replace with 18 players.
Use the team store
For the team store, see Players and the team store.
- To save a team, select it and then select Save to team store. If the team is already in the store, this updates the stored copy.
- To add a stored team to this match, select + Add team from store…, find the team and select it.
- To replace a team of the match with a stored team, see Use a match again for the next game.
All matches use the same team store.
Remove a team or a player
- Select the team or the player.
- Select Remove….
- Read the confirmation, and then select Remove.
If one of the team's overlays is on air, the confirmation tells you what leaves the screen. Removing a team empties its stat fields.
